Teaching Assistants - A Class Act

UNISON, the largest education union, knows how important your work is for the education and well-being of our children and young people.

And we believe you should be:

valued and appreciated as part of the whole school team

properly trained and paid for all the work you do

able to progress through a proper career structure

supported in dealing with challenging behaviour

able to work in a school free from staff bullying, health hazards and unreasonable demands

But as funding cuts bite, you are facing growing demands to do more for less. Your pay is being squeezed, you work an increasing number of unpaid hours and staff who leave are not replaced.

Additionally, funding for training of higher level TAs has been scrapped; the negotiating body set up to move towards national pay and conditions has been abolished; and research into the link between  teaching assistants and pupil attainment has been misused by some to undermine TAs.

But UNISON is only as strong as our members. Every TA who joins us gives UNISON a louder voice in speaking out for you.

As well as speaking out on your professional issues, UNISON offers its members:
